Camping
Camping is permitted on the Gemfields outside the 1.5km town limits, including most of the
fossicking areas. Camping permits can be
obtained from any agent of the Dept. of Mines and Energy (such as the Sapphire Trading Post), for
$2.50 per night or $15.50 per week. Also, in the center of Sapphire there is a 48 hour free rest
area located beside the public toilets and water facility. (See the
